Anne Elser is everything that is right with the calligraphy world. She has learned to focus on the joy to be found in it, for herself, and for others. I've been ogling her work for years. There's really nothing out there like it! What makes it so unique is that you can feel her joy through it. Sometimes we get boggled down with all the technicalities of calligraphy, and while Anne's technical prowess is obvious, it's the emotion behind her work that really makes you to stop and stare. I could, and have, quite literally stared at one of her posts for a good 20 minutes. You just feel something when you look at it! You feel admiration for her skill, adoration of her smart color and layout choices, and an overall contentedness. I truly believe she finds a happiness through her lettering, and it emits from her work in a seriously beautiful way. You can't help but love her for it!
Nina is the absolute sweetest! She's chock-full of talent and calligraphy know-how, and equipped with a heart-of-gold. That is the recipe for success, my friends! If you've ever been over on Nina's Instagram feed then you know what a gold mine it is! She is so incredibly forth-coming with what she's learned. She's constantly posting videos of her perfect Copperplate hand, sharing tid-bits of helpful advice and uplifting others through the Handlettered ABC's account that her and Sharisse started!
Laura is the amazing force behind Paper & Honey, a boutique wedding stationary studio based in Michigan. She's equal parts creative talent, humor and self-less encouragement! You know when you meet someone and you're like, 'she speaks my language.' That's how I felt when I met Laura at the Creative at Heart conference back in March. She's gritty, real, down-to-earth, and really freakin' funny, but also uplifting, positive, and has a style that exudes an amazing soft beauty. She cheers you on, sends work your way, gives really great advice and makes you feel like a true friend!
Chris has an amazing philosophy on business that just draws people to him. He's incredibly helpful and ready to answer even the most simple of questions! He even let's me text him whenever I want to, he may end up regretting that decision. His passion for his craft and the calligraphy community is not only contagious but encourages us all to give a greater purpose to our passion.
Heebs' holders are some of the most beautifully crafted ones I've ever seen! They're hand-carved, with beautiful woods, maintaining and enhancing the natural beauty of the wood, and shaped in a thoughtful way as to keep your hand cramp-free. His sharp sense of design is so apparent in his style, it's a unique and modern spin on the traditional. And to top it all off he's incredibly likable, and forthcoming with his knowledge!
Leila, or better known as Calligraphistic, oozes delicate calligraphy perfection. Her thin hairlines, and soft close-up shots of her work make you feel like you're looking at a tiny masterpiece, and you are! I think her style and ability really showcases and embodies the beautiful nature of the art of calligraphy. Her work makes you stop and appreciate the thought and care that went into each letterform, and keeps you in awe of every down stroke, squared end, perfectly balanced flourish. Take some time and soak in all the wisdom and inspiration she has to offer!
Sharisse of Pieces Calligraphy has such a sweet online disposition; embodying helpfulness, encouragement and lightheartedness. And her work is totally in-line with that perception. It's light, happy and beautiful. She styles her shots so professionally and in turn has a wonderfully curated feed! I love her emphasis on brush-lettering, because as you know, brush-lettering holds a special place in my heart! Enjoy this glimpse into her creative mind!
Suzanne is the type of person that you just want to hang out with. Do you have any online accounts you follow who you just need to meet in 'real-life'? Well, that's her! She has a totally approachable, and down-to-earth personality that makes you feel like she'd give really good hugs. I love that in a person! She's so warm and encouraging, and that really leaves a lasting mark on you. Not to mention, she oozes talent! Her flourishing makes me wanna give up, it's just that good! So grab your hot cup of tea, and join Suzanne on her comfy couch as we get a glimpse into her amazing business!
I'm so excited to post this interview with Elsa of Mint Tea Calligraphy! Not only is her gorgeous modern calligraphy reason enough to give her a follow, but she'll also fill your feed with hilarious banter, and this interview does not disappoint! Her feed has a refreshing, light-hearted narrative that keeps me anticipating her next batch of hilarity, coupled with amazing lettering skills that will leave you envious and inspired all at the same time!
Joi, the unstoppable force behind Bien Fait Calligraphy, is all things graceful sophistication and down-to-earth encouragement all in one human being! When I started on my instagram/calligraphy journey I, of course, started following her. Her shimmering gold calligraphy perfection was inspiring to say the least, but what really left a mark on me was her kind-hearted nature.
I'm so excited for this first installment of the creative spotlight series! There's something invaluable about getting insight into another artist's mind, workspace, process and inspiration.
This first interview is with my friend, Amy Webber, from Sincerely Amy Designs! We actually go all the way back to 2008, when we went on a Cru summer project together! And being the small world it is, we also happened to be taking the same online calligraphy course at the exact same time! I love that we're on this small business, calligraphy journey together!
