Sharisse of Pieces Calligraphy has such a sweet online disposition; embodying helpfulness, encouragement and lightheartedness. And her work is totally in-line with that perception. It's light, happy and beautiful. She styles her shots so professionally and in turn has a wonderfully curated feed! I love her emphasis on brush-lettering, because as you know, brush-lettering holds a special place in my heart! Enjoy this glimpse into her creative mind!
The fact that I've built a business around logo creation is hilarious to me. It's even more crazy that I actually love it! Because a few years ago I decided I didn't like invitation design and I really hated logo design - too hard, too messy, too long and not enough money. I swore I'd never be a logo designer, much less a type-designer. Isn't it funny how life turns out?
I love getting peeks into other people's studios and design spaces! It's so inspiring for me to see how they have their desk set up to their personal workflow, what tools they use, the art on their walls, the style and feel of the room. When I look at my workspace I often wonder if messy & mis-matched could be my brand? My studio looks like Lisa Frank and a vintage European estate sale had a baby and it puked everywhere.
My business breaks pretty evenly into 3 parts:
- Hand-lettered logo/brand work
- Wedding/event envelope, invitation & day-of design & lettering
- Hand-made wooden calligraphy nib holders
Here's a small glimpse into my studio life and everything I've been working on this past month!
After posting the shots of my Invitation Suite that I made for The Big Fake Wedding event in February, I got a lot of questions asking about how I made the outer envelopes. It looks like it'd be super difficult, but it's actually really simple & totally doable for wedding invitations! Here's the step-by-step process!
